چکیده

The absorption and fluorescence spectra of 7-dimethylamino cyclopenta [c] coumarin (C138) and 4-methyl-piperidino [g] coumarin (C339) dyes were measured in neutral, aprotic and protic solvents. Solvatochromic shifts of absorption and fluorescence as a function of different solvent polarity parameters (bulk as well as microscopic) were analyzed for these dyes and the ground state dipole moment (μg) and the first excited singlet state dipole moment (μe) were estimated to be μg = 2.2 and 3.42 D and μe = 4.58 and 5.2 D, respectively, for C138 and C339. The dipole moment values of μg = 3.4 D and μg = 3.8 D were also obtained for C138 and C339 respectively from abinitio calculations. The results are compared and discussed.

Comparative Study of Excited State Dipole Moment of Coumarin Laser Dyes: Solvent and Substituent Effect

In the present work, an array of novel substituted 2H-chromen-2-one (coumarin derivatives abbreviated as C-337, C-480, C-540A) has been subjected to photophysical analysis. Although the influence of the electron donating groups such as amino, substituted amino, hydroxyl, alkoxy groups at position 7 of the coumarin ring system has been extensively studied, However, coumarin moieties with substit...

Ground and Excited State Dipole Moments of BADAN and ACRYLODAN Determined from Solvatochromic Shifts of Absorption and Fluorescence Spectra

The electric dipole moments in the ground g and excited states e of the fluorescent probes BADAN (6-bromoacetyl-2-dimethylamino-naphthalene) and ACRYLODAN (6-acrylolyl-2-dimethylaminonaphthalene) are determined from the solvatochromic shifts of their absorption and fluorescence spectra for two Onsager interaction radii (a = 4.2 and 4.6 Å). The obtained values of g and e for BADAN are comparable...

Solvent effect on the absorption and fluorescence of ergone: determination of ground and excited state dipole moments.

The effect of solvents on the absorption and emission spectra of ergone has been studied in various solvents at 298 K. The bathochromic shift was observed in absorption and fluorescence spectra with the increase of solvents polarity, which implied that transition involved was π→π*. And the normalized transition energy value E(T)(N) showed some scattering when plotted versus Δν. The ground state...

Energy Exchange between HD ( B 1 v > J ) and Ground State H 2 and D 2 by Interaction of Electronic Transition Dipole Moments

Steady state fluorescence experiments with mixtures of HD and H2 or D2 have given effective cross sections for energy exchange processes in collisions of electronically excited HD and ground state H2 and D2 molecules in well defined quantum states. The experimental results are compared with first order calculations using the Sharma-Brau theory of energy transfer due to the interaction of transi...

Spectral properties of substituted coumarins in solution and polymer matrices.

The absorption and fluorescence spectra of substituted coumarins (2-oxo-2H-chromenes) were investigated in solvents and in polymer matrices. The substitutions involved were: (1) by groups with varying electron donating ability such as CH₃, OCH₃ and N(CH₃)₂, mainly, but not exclusively, in positions 7 and (2), by either CHO or 4-PhNHCONHN=CH- in position 3. While the spectra of non-substituted c...
